Brandywine MS/HS excelling in academics and athletics
BMHS student achievement continues rise! Michigan Merit Exam results show substantial gains: Reading up 3 points, writing showed an 11 point gain in proficiency, math up 12 points and science is up an amazing 14 points over last years scores! Once again, the high school made “adequate yearly progress” (Federal requirement) with an Ed Yes! (State of Michigan requirement) grade of a “C.” (79%) Our middle school has once again earned a 100% on the Indicators of School Performance as well as an “A” (96.7%) in mathematics on the State of Michigan School report card.
When asked about the huge academic gains Principal Patrick T. Weckel responded, “I am so proud of our students and staffs accomplishments---everyone worked so hard to achieve these significant gains—it could not be a better time to be a Bobcat.” Weckel also noted that 8th grade students were given a pizza party and juniors were treated to a “fun activity” morning to celebrate their academic accomplishments on the MEAP as well as the MME.
Athletic Director, Vance Stratton reported that the boys’ tennis, girls’ tennis, baseball, wrestling and girls’ basketball teams all earned “Team Academic All State Honors”. When asked about these achievements Mr. Stratton responded, “We have always placed a large emphasis on academics with our athletes—we do grade checks weekly and also emphasize in order for any athlete to play at the next level they need to be able to perform in the classroom first and foremost.”
In an effort to continue academic growth the school improvement team, has developed a comprehensive school improvement plan that lists goals as well as academic strategies to achieve those goals in the core areas of science, social studies, math and language arts. The core area of language arts is divided into both reading and writing.
